Focusing
on tragedy has long been a preoccupation of my art, but I am currently
most interested
in doing this non-representationally. In
a manner similar to J.M.W. Turner’s “Slave Ship” paintings,
my desire is to encapsulate difficult issues within the context of dramatically
used color, shape, form, and mark-making. When my work is at its best,
it intertwines abstract imagery and narrative to inspire contemplation,
fantasy, and empathy.
